Weather-Based Irrigation Controller Rebate

Purpose

The intent and purpose of the Weather-Based Irrigation Controller Rebate are to help reduce the amount of water used for landscape irrigation, prevent overwatering, and improve irrigation efficiency. The U.S. EPA states more than nine billion gallons of residential outdoor water are used daily, mainly for landscape irrigation. In addition, it is estimated that as much as 50 percent of the water is wasted due to overwatering caused by inefficiencies in irrigation methods and systems. The weather-based irrigation controller is intended to allow irrigation when necessary, prevent irrigation during rain events, or after heavy rain events when irrigation is not needed.
Please access the EPA WaterSense website for more details and a complete product list of qualified Weather-Based Irrigation Controllers.
The City of Winter Park may be able to assist with installing the new irrigation controller if the old mechanical, non-weather-based irrigation controller is not hard-wired into the electrical panel.

Duration

The rebate program was established in November 2017 and will continue as long as funding is available. The continuation of the rebate program is based on the approval of the City of Winter Park City Commission. The rebate program is not retroactive.
