FDOT SR426 Construction

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is leading a project to improve safety along Fairbanks Avenue between South Park Avenue and North Lakemont Avenue. The project includes resurfacing the roadway, adding traffic-calming features to encourage safer driving speeds, enhancing pedestrian connectivity, upgrading pavement markings and signage, and installing new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons at key crossing locations.

Construction Update

FDOT will temporarily deactivate the overhead traffic signal at S.R. 426 and South Interlachen Avenue at 8 p.m. on the night of Thursday, October 22. The pedestrian crossing at this intersection is currently closed, and posted signage directs pedestrians to designated detour routes. To reinforce the closure, FDOT will temporarily remove the crosswalk while the signal is deactivated.

Pedestrians crossing Fairbanks Avenue should use the designated signalized crossings at Park Avenue or Chase Avenue/Ollie Avenue. Pedestrians should follow all posted detour signage and avoid entering the restricted crossing area.

Motorists traveling through the intersection should remain alert to the modified traffic conditions, watch for pedestrians near the designated detour crossings, and follow all posted signage. Drivers should also use caution when approaching the intersection while the overhead traffic signal is deactivated.

The signal deactivation and crossing restrictions are temporary. FDOT currently anticipates reactivating the traffic signal and reopening the pedestrian crossing in late January 2027, once the sidewalk improvements in this area have been completed.
