The city’s Electric Utility Department worked in conjunction with Duke Energy® to underground the overhead power lines that run along the south side of Fairbanks Avenue between Interstate 4 and Harper Street. Construction started in late 2018, and is now complete. The remaining poles that hold other utilities, such as TV and cable lines, are scheduled to be removed by the end of 2020 along with the installation of new street lights. This project, funded by a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant, helps improve reliability for this corridor and enhances this valuable gateway into Winter Park.
