Since the city began accepting payments by credit card, the associated merchant fees have become an increasingly significant cost. In an effort to defray these costs, the city has taken two steps. First, the city is no longer accepting payments by American Express due to the high merchant fees. Second, the city is charging a credit card convenience fee of $3 per transaction for online and over the phone credit card, debit card and e-check payments. There will be no convenience fees charged, however, for credit card payments made in person. In addition, to avoid the $3 convenience fee, customers can sign up for Auto Pay here or can sign up for the online pay service with your individual banks.
