Water
Treatment
The Water
Treatment Division operates the City of Winter Park owned water
treatment facilities. The city’s drinking water facilities
consists of four interconnected water plants that serve approximately
24,000 connections in a 22 square mile service area in and outside
the city limits.
The treatment process consists of aeration, storage,
chlorination, fluoridation, the addition of sodium hydroxide for
corrosion control of copper piping, and ozonation. The facilities
are staffed with well-trained, state certified operators. City drinking
water quality presently meets all water standards established by
state and federal agencies .
The Cross Connection Control Program protects water
quality through the installation of backflow preventors on all connections
that may be a potential hazard to the water system. The city also
has an inhouse testing and repair program for backflow devices.
